Late 1980s / Early 1990s: Lockwood Company, Inc. acquires American Printing, Inc., American Business Forms, and Kerns Printing.

The Lockwood Company, originally located at 419 Commercial Street, is an outgrowth of the Trade Printing Company, organized by C. A. Lockwood in 1903. While printing a general line of commercial work, the Trade Printing Company made a specialty of blank books, loose leaf systems, office outfitting and general office supplies.

The Trade Printing Company made it a point of business to keep up to date in the matter of equipment, as well as in the product which it turned out.

In 1912, the name was changed to Lockwood-Hazel Printing and Stationery Company. The firm moved to the Masonic building in 1912, and was the first major tenant of the structure. The company maintained its operations there for 60 years.

In 1935, the now nationally known and patented automatic-locking county binder was born. The invention of the self-locking binder was just the beginning. The Unit System, a method of recording assessments and taxation, followed. Then it was the production of precinct pack election supplies for Kansas counties. With the offset printing trend, the Lockwood Company pioneered the layout sheet for newspapers throughout the country. Computerized county tax services surfaced another avenue for the company. And yet another service, obsolete in many areas today, is pen ruling, a method of placing colored lines on pieces of paper for permanent record keeping - a skill that only few craftsmen have mastered.

In 1949, the name was changed to the Lockwood Company, Inc. The company specialized in the production of loose leaf and bound records, elections supplies, tax rolls, assessment supplies and other items used by county governments.

In 1972, the Lockwood Company, Inc. moved to its current location on Pratt Road.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Lockwood Company, Inc. purchased American Printing Inc. and American Business Forms in Leavenworth and Kerns Printing in Weston. These acquisitions enhanced the companies' abilities to specialize in business forms, snap-out and continuous computer forms, 2 and 4 color brochures and commercial printing.

The Lockwood Company, Inc. has grown and expanded over the years by finding, developing and perfecting new services and products for its customers. Advancements in technology allow for the production of high quality digital printing at a fraction of the cost. The Lockwood Company, Inc., through its commercial and wholesale printing divisions, is proud to offer products and services such as continuous computer forms, laser cut sheets and checks, snap out forms, letterhead, envelopes, business cards, office products and furniture, and full bindery capabilities.

The Lockwood Company, Inc. looks forward to serving the needs of its customers, providing a quality product and personal service.
